Locks in the News: Locked-Out Mother Leaves Baby Alone While Smoke Alarm Goes Off

A London-area mother endured quite a scare recently when she accidentally locked herself out of her apartment, leaving her 10-month old child alone inside. To make matters worse, she had left a pot boiling on the stove, as she was cooking lunch at the time incident occurred. The woman had briefly stepped outside to answer the doorbell, but inadvertently allowed the door to close and lock behind her while she was attending to her visitor.

The woman was able to contact her husband at work, but she quickly became distraught once the smoke alarm began to sound inside the apartment. Firefighters were called to the woman’s home in Grove Close, Slough (about 20 miles west of London), but moments before they arrived on the scene, the woman’s husband had already made it to the house and unlocked the door. He subsequently guided the mother and their baby outside to safety, and the fire crew secured the kitchen area, examining the premises before declaring the “all clear.” Fortunately, no one was injured, and no property was damaged as a result of the incident.

This type of harrowing situation is actually more common than you might think, and sadly not all incidents end up without injuries. Something as simple as accidentally locking yourself out of your home while a pot is cooking on the stove can potentially lead to a dangerous scenario, possibly even threatening lives and property. Traditional keys and locks are ill-equipped to provide you with the convenient access you need to re-enter your property in the event of a lockout. This means that you’ll either need to contact someone else who has an extra copy of your key, or you’ll have to call a locksmith, which is an unexpected expense. More than likely, both scenarios will require you to wait outside, which in the case of a potential indoor fire hazard would be unacceptable.

Keyless locks can completely eliminate all of the inconvenience and safety risks associated with lockouts. Using a keyless lock such as the Lockey M210, all you’d need to do is enter your user code into the keypad, and you can re-enter your home within seconds of realizing that you accidentally locked yourself out.

On top of the outstanding convenience that a keyless lock offers, you can also be confident that when your lock is engaged, it will provide more than enough protection for your home. The Lockey M210 for example is virtually indestructible; the body of the lock is made of a strong and heavy zinc alloy, which along with its top-notch design makes it pick-proof, bump-proof and even hacksaw-proof. Its rugged construction and simple operation make this lock a top choice for people who want robust security as well as user-friendly functionality.

You simply can’t get this same level of protection and convenience from traditional keys and cylinder locks. When it comes to keeping your home and family safe, keyless locks are the obvious choice, especially if you ever find yourself in an emergency situation where every second counts.
