Our CES Recap

Last week, we attended the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. As you may have read in our post last week, the majority of our time was focused on home automation and the large number of GoKeyless manufacturers that will be represented as part of Z-Wave Alliance. Just FYI, the Z-Wave Alliance is a consortium of over 250 leading manufacturers and service providers worldwide that are dedicated to interoperable wireless control products based on the Z-Wave open standard.

Control everything with your smartphone

We’ve been watching Z-Wave grow and adapt over the years, and this year was no exception.  The technology has advanced rapidly, and it’s remarkable to see how many devices (even non Z-Wave devices, such as Nest) can be integrated and controlled through an app on a smartphone. Z-Wave allows consumers to control features and surveillance for not only their home but for the office, as well.

For example, picture this scenario: You’re a pharmacist, and you’re at home. You receive a text on your smartphone informing you that a controlled substance has been removed from a monitored cabinet. From there, on your phone, you pull up an app and immediately identify the unauthorized employee by viewing a short video. This scenario encapsulates everything that we have at our fingertips today with both residential and commercial automation. Z-Wave enables consumers to do just about anything they can imagine through a basic bridge controller and some simple add-on devices—the possibilities are truly endless. Take a look at our Z-Wave Home Automation products here.

Other highlights

3d printers, 4k TVs, and the Oculus Rift are a few products that we found the most compelling , but really…the list goes on and on—some more impressive than others. Actually, come to think of it, 4k televisions were pretty overrated. We couldn’t tell the difference from 1080 to 4k. Considering the remarkable improvement from standard definition to hi-def—the jump just isn’t comparable.

LG is always a standout, and this year proved no different when they unveiled a 110-foot 3D screen (you read that correctly—that’s feet, not inches). LG also showed off a new line of extremely small yet high-resolution home projectors, offered at a competitive price point, as well.

Don’t forget about the deal this month…
