Out of the box, the Schlage FE595 will not work on a door with a thickness that exceeds 1 3/4 inches. However, you can use a Schlage Thick Door Kit that will allow you to modify it to work properly.

Yes, the FE595 is designed to allow enough space above the lower bore for a standard deadbolt.

Follow the steps below to replace the battery within your FE595:
1.) Remove the two screws from the interior portion of the unit. These should be located above and below the interior handle.
2.) Remove the interior cover from the unit.
3.) Exchange the 9V battery from within the unit.
4.) Reinstall the interior cover and mounting screws. - A

This lock can be installed on a door of any material as long as it is prepped for a standard 161 prep.

The factory default programming code for this model can be found on the backplate of the keypad unit. The lock will need to be removed from the door to find this code.

The access code will be 4 digits long and the programming code must be 6 digits long.

1.) Enter your current 6-digit programming code
2.) Press the Schlage button
3.) Press 3 on your keypad
4.) Enter your new 6-digit programming code

Unfortunately, this model does not offer a privacy feature. The interior thumb turn is used to toggle the door between locked and unlocked. The outside keypad will still allow access through the door with a valid code.

This model is designed for exterior entry doors! The outside keypad is weatherproof but we do not recommend this model for gate applications where the interior handle will also be exposed to the elements.

I was seeking a weather-resistant, key-less system for multiple doors in a multifamily residence. I found the Schlage model FE595 easy to install and program. There are 19, user-programmable codes which can be used simultaneously in each lock. This permits me to program multiple doors with one (or more), four-digit code assigned to each tenant (e.g.the tenant gets to chose their four digit code which will permit them access to garage, laundry, utility room, foyer, and their residence- if that’s the way you wish to manage access). When their lease terminates, their code(s) can be erased from each common area door in minutes without affecting access codes assigned to the other tenants. No chasing and labeling hard keys! Assign a maintenance code which can be given to contractors and later erased or changed. Easy!
This is a sturdy product and gives confidence. The metal finish feels durable as do the buttons; the numbers won’t wear off.
A brand-name, 9-volt battery was supplied and the instructions estimate 2-year life. An indicator flashes to signal the need for battery replacement which should take minutes using a screwdriver from the inside of the door. Codes are retained while the battery is replaced.
Instructions were clear and there are programming videos on Youtube.
I will buy again.

Was easy to install and I am 70. I installed in door to garage so when I am working in yard in summer someone cannot come in house thru garage and I don’t have to carry a key with me. I love it.
