Hardware Durability Standards

As you shop our website you will notice that many products have a rating for ANSI or BHMA. Those ratings are from the American National Standards Institute and Builders Hardware Manufacturers Association. These organizations stress products through rigorous testing and the product must meet specific criteria in order for them to receive a grade. Those criteria are:

Grade 1

• Must stay locked after minimum force of 300lb/in for a knob and 450lb/in for a lever
• Turning device completes 800,000 cycles

Grade 2

• Must stay locked after minimum force of 150lb/in for a knob and 225lb/in for a lever
• Turning device completes 400,000 cycles

Grade 3

• Must stay locked after minimum force of 120lb/in for a knob and 180lb/in for a lever
• Turning device completes 200,000 cycles
