dormakaba Simplex 1000 Lock Change Code Instructions

Has it been a while since you changed the code on your dormakaba Simplex 1000 Series lock? Maybe you lost the manual, or you moved into a building with a Simplex 1000 pushbutton lock and only know the current code. This guide shows you how to reset your dormakaba door lock code without losing access to your door.

Before Starting a Simplex Lock Code Change

Confirm that your lock is a dormakaba Simplex 1000 series model.
Make sure you know the current code for your lock.
Ensure that you have access to the interior side of the door.
Keep the door open for the entire code change procedure.
On models with the passage feature (Model numbers 1031, 1041, L1031, L1041, and L1076), make sure the passage feature is disengaged. The knob must be in its vertical position, i.e., it cannot be turned.

If you do not know your code, do not use this guide. Instead, call a local locksmith for assistance.

Supplies and Tools

You need the following to complete a dormakaba lock code change on a Simplex 1000 Series lock:

DF-59 control key
Spanner wrench

Both items come with your 1000 Series lock. If you don’t have the original tools, you can order areplacement control key and spanner wrench. If you don't have the original tools and can't get a replacement, call a locksmith for help.

Before starting, review the checklist above to avoid getting locked out. Keep the door open for the entire procedure.

Step 1

Insert the DF-59 control key into the combination change plug assembly (located on the back) and unscrew the cylinder by turning the key counterclockwise. Remove the combination change plug to gain access to the combination change sleeve.

Step 2

Turn the outside knob clockwise once (all the way until it stops), then release. The latch should not retract.

Step 3

Enter the existing combination. You should feel a slight click as you press each button.

Step 4

Insert the spanner wrench to engage the combination change sleeve. Gently turn the spanner wrench clockwise to the stop position (you should feel a slight click), then turn it counterclockwise to the stop position. Remove the spanner wrench.

Note: Do not force the spanner wrench, as this can damage the internal combination sleeve.

Step 5

Turn the outside knob once clockwise all the way until it stops, then release. The latch should not retract.

Step 6

Choose your new combination and write it down. Enter the new combination, pressing each button carefully. You should feel a slight click as you press each button. For added security, use a code with at least 3 digits.

Note: You can use one button or all five for a combination, but each button can only be used once. You can depress two or more buttons simultaneously as a step in the combination.

Step 7

Turn the outside knob clockwise all the way until it stops. Hold it in position and make sure the latch is retracted, then release the knob.

Step 8

Turn the knob clockwise again to the stop position. At this point, the latch should not retract unless you enter the new combination.

Step 9

Re-secure the combination change plug assembly by screwing it in clockwise with the DF-59 key. Do not overtighten. Remove the key and store it in a secure area with these instructions and the spanner wrench.

FAQs

How do I know if I have a 1000 series lock?	Simplex 1000 Series model numbers start with "10" followed by two digits, such as 1011, 1021, 1031, or 1041. Some models also have a letter after the number indicating the interchangeable core type, such as 1021B or 1041S. Models with an "L" prefix are L1000 Series lever locks and use the same code change procedure. If you don't know your model number, contact the GoKeyless Care team for help.
Can I use the same number twice in my new Simplex 1000 combination?	No. You can use each number only once. You cannot use the same number twice in a row or with a different number in between.
What if I made a mistake or the new code isn't working?	If the latch doesn't retract with your new combination, don't shut the door. Repeat the steps from Step 2 using your old combination first to see if the reset was canceled. If the lock feels stuck, clear it by turning the outside knob clockwise to the stop position and releasing it, then try entering the new code again.
How many digits need to be in my new Simplex 1000 code?	Your code can have 1 to 5 digits. For better security, we recommend having at least 3 digits in your code.
How does it work to press two buttons simultaneously as part of the code?	Simplex locks are mechanical, so each button press moves internal parts rather than recording a number electronically. Pressing two buttons at once creates a different mechanical position than pressing either button alone. Press both at the same time with equal pressure so the internal parts engage correctly.
