dormakaba Simplex 5000 Lock Change Code

Has it been a while since you changed your dormakaba Simplex 5000 code, and have you forgotten how to do it? Did you lose your manual? Did you move into a location where one of these Simplex 5000 Pushbutton locks is installed and you only know the code? This guide will help you reset the code without losing access to your door.

Before Starting a Simplex 5000 Code Change

Verify that you have a dormakaba Simplex 5000 lock type.
Make sure you know the current code for your lock.
Ensure that you have access to the interior side of the door.
Keep the door open for the entire code change procedure.
On models with the passage feature, make sure the passage feature is disengaged. The knob must be in its vertical position, i.e., it cannot be turned.

If you do not know your code, do not use this guide. Instead, call a local locksmith for assistance.

You need the following to complete a code change for the Simplex 5000 series:

Torx wrench (for interior lock change procedure)
Release tool (for exterior lock change procedure)

dormakaba Simplex 5000 Code Change Steps

You can easily change the combination using one to five of the lock’s buttons in any order. You can use each button only once. Note: For higher security, use three or more numbers in a random order. Also, two or more buttons may be pushed together (at the same time) as part of your new combination, i.e., 2 & 5 at the same time.

The steps for updating your code vary depending on whether you are changing the code from the exterior or interior side of the door. Here is how to tell what type of 5000 series lock you have:

Exterior code-change doors: There will be a small pinhole meant for inserting a flat code-change release tool. This is the standard configuration for most commercial Simplex 5000 locks.
Interior code-change doors: The interior trim will have a small Torx screw cap or access hole for the housing. This configuration is less common and is found only on D.O.D.-compliant models such as the 503X or 505X.

Regardless of whether you have an interior or exterior change code lock, the door must be open during the entire procedure.

Step 1

Rotate the outside lever/knob once to the stop position and release to reset the lock; the latch should not retract.

Press the existing combination followed by the ENTER button and release; do not turn the lever/knob.

Step 2

Follow the procedure that applies to your lock style:

Exterior Combination Change: Insert the release tool through the hole in the number pad and gently lift the loop end of the tool to depress the code change button until you hear a click; remove the tool and do not press any buttons (Step 4).
Interior Combination Change: Unscrew the special Torx screw from inside the housing using the supplied Torx wrench. Enter your existing combination, and depress and release the “ENTER” button. Insert the longer end of the same Torx wrench through the opening until it engages with the mating part. Turn the wrench counterclockwise (using minimal force) approximately 90 degrees, until it clicks. Return the wrench to the initial position. Remove the wrench and replace the Torx screw.

Step 3

Important: Rotate the lever/knob once, and only once, to clear the old combination; the latch will retract; release the lever/knob.

Step 4

Enter your new combination, followed by the ENTER button (c), and then release. IMPORTANT: The “ENTER” button must be depressed and released after entering the combination. The latch will not retract until you press and release the “ENTER” button.

Step 5

Rotate the lever/knob to verify that the latch retracts, confirming the new combination is valid (if you try the old combination now, it should not work).

FAQs

How do I know if I have a 5000 series lock?	Locks in the dormakaba 5000 series have a model number that starts with “50” followed by two other digits. There may be additional letters after the model number, such as B, S, or C. If you do not know your lock model number, contact our care team for assistance.
Can I use the same number twice in my new Simplex 5000 combination?	No. Each number can be used only once anywhere in the code.
How many digits need to be in my new Simplex 5000 code?	Your code can have 1 to 5 digits. For adequate security, we recommend having at least 3 digits in your code.
