Today we use computers for virtually everything. Banking, staying in touch with people, paying bills, gaming, education, and work. Did you know your computer can also control your door locks? Most of us have probably experienced network security before. This is when you login to your home or workplace PC with a token, or PIN. What we are referring to is a new platform in keyless locks for increasing physical security.
New keyless locks have emerged for residential, and commercial applications, that can be managed from a PC. This could be one lock protecting a single entry door into your home, an installed base of keyless locks throughout your office building, or an integrated deployment of keyless locks at multiple sites.
While these types of locks come in different body styles, finishes, and include many different product options, you can be assured there is a computer managed keyless lock to handle your security requirements, and is compatible with your door opening. What you’ll find when researching these locks, is that you can typically retrofit your standard lockset. You may need to drill a few extra mounting holes through the door, but these are typically much smaller than your cross-bore holes, requiring much less time and effort.
You can transition away from the key hassles of mechanical locks, into either an online or offline pc managed keyless lock. The more economically priced locks are managed by taking your PC to the door, and connecting directly to the lock. More advanced systems are networkable, and wireless, allowing you to the leverage the power of your network to manage your security.
One of the best aspects of these new locks and access control products, is you do not need a degree in computer science to operate and use them. Sure, with the more advanced wireless and network-ready locks, you will most likely need to have your IT manager help you with the initial setup. But even with these systems, once the software is installed, and configured, it is a short learning curve to begin communicating, and using your locks. As with most of our products, we offer installation, training, programming, and custom setup to make it easy to start benefiting from this great technology.
These locks are completely self-contained, and battery powered. By eliminating the need to run power to your door, you realize enough in savings to pay for the lock equipment. Not many investments in security have this short of a pay-back period. Most importantly, you do not give up any of the mainstream access control features. Audit trail, scheduling, authority levels, and integration with existing card credentials are available with these products.
