The RV lifestyle is experiencing a surge in popularity, with everyone from retirees to tiny house enthusiasts to famous YouTube traveling vloggers getting in on the action. While owning an RV can offer many benefits including freedom, convenience, and simplicity, what often goes overlooked is the importance of having adequate security to protect your belongings.
Most professional thieves know the majority of standard RV locks and keys are produced by a handful of manufacturers, with little variance from one RV model to the next. Keeping the factory default locks on your RV entry door can make it all too easy for a would-be burglar to break in, so it’s definitely a good idea to change out those locks for something more robust (and less predictable). This is where a keyless lock would really come in handy.
Not only will keyless locks provide a higher level of security for your motorhome, but they’re also a heck of a lot more convenient for everyday use. For example:
When choosing a keyless lock for your motorhome, you have to keep the thickness of the door in mind. More often than not, RV entry doors tend to be quite thin, so your best bet would be to install a surface mounted lock such as the Lockey M220 compact digital door lock. It features 3 layers of laminate steel and can fit doors that range in thickness from only 1/8 of an inch to 2 inches. Not only is the Lockey M220 bump proof and pick proof, but its weatherproof construction is a perfect fit for braving all kinds of temperatures and weather conditions out on the road.
For RV doors with standard thickness (which is not that common), the Lockey M210 keyless push-button deadbolt lock is an excellent choice. It has an extremely durable zinc alloy body, and it operates by way of a simple thumbturn that locks and unlocks the deadbolt once you enter your passcode.
If you have a motorhome with sliding doors (which is also not very common), the Lockey 2500 keyless sliding door lock will be your best bet. Its rugged construction makes this lock virtually indestructible, and it also offers weatherproof performance for those unpredictable outdoor conditions.
Fortunately, all of the locks mentioned above are very easy to install, and they require very little ongoing maintenance once they’ve been set up. With all of the risks and inconvenience that comes along with sticking with the factory default locks, it only makes sense to secure your RV with something much more effective. Switch to keyless locks for your motorhome, you’ll have one less thing to worry about on the road!
